Battle of communication companies in Kenya

Bharti Airtel formerly know as Kencell, Celtel then Zain introduced a new tariff that sent waves into the country. This by far is the lowest tariff ever to be introduced in Kenya. The new tariff will allow all customers to call all networks at as little as Kshs. 3.00 equivalent of USD 0.04, and send short text messages to all networks at Kshs. 1.00 equivalent of USD 0.013. That is if a dollar is to sell for Kshs. 75.00 in the local markets.

This move was brought about by lowering of inter-connection rates by Kenya's communication governing body CCK.
A rival company Essar which hosts Yu has followed suit by introducing a lower tariff. Its customers will call for as low as 5 cents per second which when computer sums up to around Kshs. 3.00 per minute. The customers will however get to enjoy more on this network by sending text messages with as low as 50 cents per message.

Other companies that are expected to follow suit are Safaricom Ltd which so far leads in the ownership of the market share and Orange. The two companies have however kept their secret up their sleeves and leave the public with no clue as to what they might introduce to counter both Zain and Yu's tariffs.

The news about the tariff has been recieved well by the Kenya market considering the majority of the population lives on below a dollar a day. This is a good day to the locals.
